МИКРОБИОЛОГИЯ -- MICROBIOLOGY (обучение)
Анотація: If the physician wants to be able to provide to his patients the correct and timely therapeutic and prophylactic care, the knowledge of the laboratory diagnosis of infectious and parasitic diseases prevalent in various regions of the world is absolutely essential for him, no matter what is his chosen branch of medicine. In the textbooks and teaching aids on infectious and parasitic diseases published recently for students of higher medical schools the main emphasis has been placed on aetiology, pathogenesis, prevention, and treatment, while the questions pertaining to the laboratory diagnosis are only schematically outlined, without proper attention to the rapid methods of examination. The given book presents a detailed description of the stages of the laboratory diagnosis of bacterial and viral infections, protozoiasis, mycosis, and helminthiasis. The book depicts modern microscopic, cultural, serological, allergological, and biological methods of examination and provides rationale for their employment in the di ag-nosis of specific infectious diseases. Much attention has been g ven to rapid diagnosis of infectious diseases and to the most advanced serological methods of investigation, which are only beginning to make the first, but highly promising, steps toward their wide-spread utilization in practical laboratory work. These are enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, immunoelectron microscopy, immunofluo-rescence test, radioimmunoassay, reversed indirect haemaggluti-nation, immunoferritin reaction, etc. All the names of microorganisms are in agreement with the International Code of the Bacterial Nomenclature accepted on January 1, 1980, and the nomenclature of viruses, fungi, protozoa, and helminths; physical values are presented in keeping with the International System of Units (SI).
This book presents the modern methods of laboratory diagnosis of bacterial, rickettsial, and chlamydobacterial infections, and also of diseases caused by viruses, fungi, and the simplest microorganisms encountored everywhere, in particular in countries with a hot climate. Each chapter begins with a description of the latest and generally adopted microscopic, bacteriological, serological, allergological, and biological methods of investigation and their application to a specific disease or group of infections having a similar diagnosis. The book is intended for students specializing in clinical medicine, paediatrics, and public health
