We have attempted to incorporate the many constructive suggestions and also a large volume of new material without at the same time lengthening the text. This has necessitated the deletion of obsolete material, both in text and in illustrative matter. The most extensive addition lies in Dr. Jane Russell’s chapters on the endocrines which bring into physiological perspective the many recent biochemical developments in the sphere of metabolism and the ductless glands. Dr. Russell’s unusual background and training with Drs. Herbert M. Evans and C. N. H.
