Hypoxic-hypercapnic environment as a model of hypometabolism, hypothermia, ‘voluntary’ calorie-restriction and non-medicamentous treatment of related pathology [Text] / D. A. Tolstun
Inverse relationship between aging and metabolic rate is well-documented in numerous phylogenetic and ontogenetic models. Of particular interest is comparison of two closely related murine species — mice and naked-mole rats (NMRs). The latter has significantly lower metabolic rate and body temperature and lives around an order of magnitude longer without development of age-associated pathology typical for mice and most other animal species. There are reasons to believe that the extraordinary longevity and resistance to pathology of NMRs are associated with hypoxic-hypercapnic environment (HHE) of their habitat. In this research we asked if HHE could induce similar changes in mice Дод. Tolstun, D. A. Knyazer, A. Dubiley, T. A. Tushinskaya, T. V. Pishel, I. N. Bezrukov, V. V. Fraifeld, V. E.
