Анотація: Inverse relationship between aging and metabolic rate is well-documented in numerous phylogenetic and ontogenetic models. Of particular interest is comparison of two closely related murine species — mice and naked-mole rats (NMRs). The latter has significantly lower metabolic rate and body temperature and lives around an order of magnitude longer without development of age-associated pathology typical for mice and most other animal species. There are reasons to believe that the extraordinary longevity and resistance to pathology of NMRs are associated with hypoxic-hypercapnic environment (HHE) of their habitat.
