Annotation: I consider it a privilege to be asked by my former students to contribute a foreword to this handbook of ’Practical Medicine’. It also gives me a sense of pride. The hectic curriculum of medical colleges and to some extent lack of adequate teaching in some of these, has led the author, who is an able teacher, to provide guidelines for the final M.B.B.S student in medicine for the practical examinations including the viva. The book packs a lot of information of value into its pages. The opening chapter is devoted to common clinical cases, and the remaining chapters cover most aspects of requirements for the standard practical examination. The facts are presented precisely, and with resort to tabular forms where necessary. The tabulated chapter on drugs in common usage is up-to-date and comprehensive. I am sure this publication will prove quite welcome to the undergraduate students. This is a book which is not likely to be quickly outdated or superceded
