Its plot is based on the adventures of a young New York millionaire, Francis Morgan, his friend and distant relative Henry and charming Leoncia — all of them are united by the search of Maya’s treasures and romantic love. Dangerous wanderings through the Cordilleras, mystical prophecies, mysterious caves where every step hides deadly danger, stockjobbing intrigues, the insidiousness of enemies, and the betrayal of some friends — this is the way which the heroes of the novel have to overcome. The novel is very easily read; it arouses belief in genuine friendship, true love, and such people’s virtues as honesty, courage, nobility, and self-sacrifice
