Анотація: It is with profound sorrow that I record the very untimely demise of Dr. B.D. Chaurasia. Although I never had occasion to meet him personally, we knew each other intimately through a rich correspondence, and had developed a great deal of mutual respect. This book, produced with a great deal of labour by Dr. Chaurasia, has been received by the student community with unparalled enthusiasm; and its popularity amongst those for whom it was meant is Dr. Chaurasia’s real memorial. When approached by the publishers to edit the book for a second edition. I agreed mainly out of my deep regard for the scholarship and personality of Dr. Chaurasia. This is my homage to him. In revising the book its basic pattern has not been touched. However, a large number of alterations have been made to increase readability and comprehensibility. Throughout the text the language has been altered to give the text greater flow. Many sections have been rewritten. The sequence of chapters has been altered to make it more rational. In each part the section on osteology is placed first as it needs to be read before proceeding with other chapters. However, the attachments on bones are given separately so that these can be omitted by beginners. Extensive work has been done on the illustrations. The sizes of many figures that were too small or too large has been adjusted. All figures now have one uniform size of labelling. Many figures have been replaced with new ones. I am deeply obliged to Mr S.K. Jain of CBS publishers for extending his full cooperation in the preparation of this edition. In spite of my best efforts many imperfections are bound to remain. Suggestions for improvement are welcome from both teachers and students

In MBBS First year, Anatomy comes as one of the subjectsThis edition has been designed as per MCI BoG syllabus, 2018 featuring the text and headings following the "Competency based Undergraduate Curriculum for the Indian Medical Graduate, 2018", prescribed by Medical Council of India. Анотація: This edition of the Handbook aims to meet the requirements of students of medical and dental sciences, Ayurveda, homeopathy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and alternative medicine, who are newly admitted to their respective professional colleges. It thoroughly introduces the reader to the basics of human anatomy and anatomic terminology along with various structures which constitute the human body. As teaching of general anatomy lays down the foundation of the subjects of medicine and surgery with their allied counterparts, the text has been written in a simple and comprehensive language. All the chapters have been extensively illustrated by simple colour diagrams. Each chapter begins with a quotation giving a subtle meaning to the topic. A new chapter on basic genetics has been added to make the book more meaningful. Chapter on radiology has been expanded and revised by extensive addition of radio-images. A new section on biomechanics has been added in the chapter on joints, giving another dimension to the mechanism of the joints. Points to Remember given at the end of each chapter will help the student in quick revision of the topics. Self-evaluation of the learnt topics can be done by answering multiple choice questions put at the end of each chapter. The appendix on anatomical word meanings and historic names makes a rich source of information that is basic to the study of medicine. The size of the book is deliberately kept small, so that it fits into the apron’s pocket
