Анотація: Skin and venereal diseases in adults and children have their own specific features. The same skin disease often follows a clinical course which differs greatly in adults and children because of considerable distinctions between them in the reactivity of the organism, the endocrine status, in the condition of the central nervous system, and also because of the intensive growth of a child organism, and other factors. Moreover, some dennatoses are principally inherent in only adulthood or in childhood. Occupational skin diseases, for instance, are encountered only in adults, whereas epidemic pemphigus, pseudofurunculosis and exfoliative dermatitis are found only in the newborn; early congenital syphilis is manifest under the age of four years, while late congenital syphilis is displayed in most cases between the ages of seven and 16 to 18 years. The course of acquired syphilis in children is marked by its own features. The clinical course of many skin diseases, however, is similar in an adult and in a child, or may differ only slightly. That is why, unlike early textbooks of skin and venereal diseases mainly intended for students of general therapeutical or paediatric faculties of medical schools, this textbook was compiled with due consideration for the curricula of both these faculties. Moreover, the authors hope that this textbook will also prove valuable for physicians practicing in the field of dermato-venereology. This textbook put out by the Meditsina Publishing House in 1979 in a circulation of 75 000 copies was quickly sold out. In preparation for the English edition the authors revised the book. Some of the sections under the title ’Syphilis’ and some chapters (as indicated in the Contents and in the footnotes in the text) were written by M. V. Milich, Assistant-Professor at the Chair of Skin and Venereal Diseases, Central Institute of Postgraduate Medical Training. The chapter dealing with leprosy was written jointly with G. Ya. Sharapova, Doctor of Medical Sciences. The chapter on the organization of dermato-venereological service of the Soviet population was written by Professor N. M. Turanov.

Анотація: Following recent developments and advances in dermatology, the sixth edition of Illustrated Synopsis of Dermatology & Sexually Transmitted Diseases has been thoroughly revised and updated. This book has been used for the past decade and a half as the standard textbook of dermatology by undergraduate students. The latest edition will no doubt serve the same purpose and help UGs crack the PG entrance. However, the purpose of this book really goes beyond that—it’s an endeavor to evince the UGs interest in this very popular subject and familiarize them with common dermatological problems. It must be remembered a third of patients seen by general practitioners or pediatricians have skin issues. Hence, it is important for UGs to have a basic knowledge of dermatology to be able to guide their patients. Finally, the book will also serve as a quick reference for dermatology PGs’ in the early days in of their dermatology residency’ and a keepsake for general physicians and pediatricians. At the same time the popular student-friendly format of the previous editions in the form of crisp bulleted text peppered with numerous high- quality images, flowcharts, synopsis, clues to differential diagnosis and tabulated therapeutic strategies has been retained
