Анотація: This textbook is based on courses that I have developed for numerous educational and health care centers. With modifications in course content to accommodate differing levels of educational background, these courses, seminars, workshops, and lecture series have been presented to undergraduates and to licensed professionals in the fields of nursing and allied health. Essentials of Pathophysiology is designed to serve the dual functions of (1) providing an introduction to the undergraduate and (2) furnishing a review of basic material for the professional
I have based the writing of this book on the experience gained from nearly a decade of teaching the courses. Its conceptual framework is simple in that it seeks to categorize some of the states of aberrant physiology into types of malfunctions and maladaptations that arise within the human organ systems. Thus pathophysiology is presented as abnormal physiology. Whenever possible, the underlying bases of these aberrations in function are further presented in terms of their chemistry and physics. The entire approach is a mechanistic one, and it is hoped that such an approach will reduce the need for memorization of states of illness by demonstrating to the student where such states “fit” into the normal physiologic pathways. It is also hoped that this approach will further the concept of the wellness-illness continuum and holistic clinical practice
Although broad in its inclusion of organ systems, the text avoids the cataloging of large numbers of pathophysiologic states while concentrating on the major entities. The illustrations are original, with one exception, many of them having been generated on site in lectures to help clarify problem areas. As teaching devices, they have proven their value on many occasions. As with the content of the chapters, the illustrations have been evaluated by a large number of students

The textbook is written to help students in their independent studies on Pathophysiology and to understand the material on pathological processes development. The material provided in the textbook is adapted to the credit-module system of training and will help to increase knowledge of mechanisms of typical pathological processes at the molecular, organ and systemic levels. There are new materials of national and foreign pathological physiology in the book. The textbook is recommended for training medical students of all medical university faculties. It can also be offered for use in preparing doctors, interns, aspirants, postgraduate students, and may be useful to physicians of all specialties at any stage of postgraduate education
У пропонованому підручнику з патофізіології для студентів, які навчаються англійською мовою, викладені основні розділи патологічної фізіології відповідно до учбової програми для студентів вищих медичних навчальних закладів, затвердженою Міністерством охорони здоров’я України. Підручник написано з метою допомогти студентам у самостійній підготовці до занять з патофізіології та вивченні матеріалу з розвитку патологічних процесів. Наданий у підручнику матеріал адаптовано до кредитно-модульної системи навчання та буде сприяти розширенню знань про механізми розвитку типових патологічних прцесів на молекулярному, органному та системному рівнях. У підручнику представлено нові досягнення як вітчизняної, так і зарубіжної патологічної фізіології. підручник рекомендується для підготовки студентів-медиків на усіх факультетах вищих медичних навчальних закладів. Також він може бути використаний для підготовки лікарів-інтернів, ординаторів, аспірантів та бути корисним лікарем усіх спеціальностей на будь-якому етапі післядипломної освіти

Анотація: The goal of Pathophysiology of Disease: An Introduction to Clinical Medicine, as outlined in the introductory chapter (Chapter 1), is to introduce students to clinical medicine by reviewing the pathophysiologic basis of the symptoms and signs of various common diseases
The book has proved useful as a text for both Pathophysiology and Introduction to Clinical Medicine courses in medical schools, and it has been popular in similar courses in nursing schools, physician assistants’ training programs, and other allied health programs. It is valuable to students early in their medical school years by highlighting the clinical relevance of their basic science courses, and in preparation for their USMLE Step 1 examinations.
