Анотація: The first Ukrainian textbook on Pharmacognosy in English prepared in accordance with the curriculum for training Masters of Pharmacy. The book describes the main classes of biologically active substances — their current classification, the chemical structure, distribution in the plant world, methods of isolation and identification, the relationship of the chemical structure and the biological activity of natural compounds. For the first time side effects of herbs and phytomedicines and pharmaceutical care were added to the textbook. Since there is insufficient amount of the necessary educational literature in English, this textbook will serve as the main book for English-speaking students.

Анотація: This edition is the first textbook on Botany in Ukraine written in the English language. It is composed in accordance with the current curriculum considering the requirements of Bologna convention. The textbook provides the basic knowledge of macro - and microscopic analysis of plant objects. It also gives the modern concept of the structure, chemical composition and functions of plant cells, tissues and organs, as well as the ways of plant reproduction. The current views on the classification of the plant world, application of medicinal plants, issues of phytoecology and geobotany, preservation and rational use of plants in Ukraine are presented. The book describes families and some species as for their distribution, diagnostic features, chemical composition and application. The text is accompanied with 5 tables, 335 figures and 1367 author’s photographs. There are control questions, self-control tests, terminological glossary, index of the Latin and English names and the list of the literature used. The edition is intended to be used for studying the basic Botany discipline and as a reference book
