It consists of an introduction and the following three parts: Part I. General microbiology (taxonomy, classification, morphology, physiology, genetics of micro-organisms, etc.). Part II. The theory of infection and immunity. Part III. Special microbiology (bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and the diseases caused by them). The systematics and the names of \ micro-organisms are presented according to the new international classification and nomenclature. The structure and chemical composition of bacteria and viruses are described on the basis of contemporary data obtained by light and electron microscopy and physico-chemical methods. The part dealing with special microbiology presents a brief characteristic of the most widely spread pathogenic groups of micro-organisms, describes their morphology, genetic apparatus, cultivation methods, antigenic structure, and other properties.
